Recommended standard wall thickness is 18"-24" with a thermal break seems to work best for energy reasons.  12" walls with foam are common and competitive to block walls w/ insulation.  Veneer walls have been cast as thin as 4 inches.  Decorative super high mass walls have been cast as thick as 8 feet .
